Aggreko, the world leader in temporary power and temperature control solutions, has supplied a battery storage system to support Argonne National Laboratory's new electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging facility. Located in Lemont, Illinois, Argonne's new EV facility is one of the first of its kind in the United States, and is designed to support the growing number of plug-in electric vehicles on the road.

The new EV facility features eight Aggrekocontainerized battery storage units, each capable of storing 1MW/1.3MWh of energy. The battery units will be used to store energy generated by the facility's solar photovoltaic (PV) array, and will be discharged during peak demand periods to help meet the facility's power needs. By using battery storage to meet peak power demand, Argonne will be able to reduce its overall energy costs and improve the efficiency of its EV facility.

"We are excited to be working with Argonne National Laboratory on this important project," said Mark Elfinger, Aggreko's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Americas. "Our containerized battery storage units are a perfect fit for this application, and we are proud to be supporting the growth of electric vehicles in the United States."
