In the world of student entrepreneurs, Akshay Kashyap and his co-founder Srijan Kumar are making waves with their simple yet powerful startup, Kitabwalah. The business, which started with just Rs 800 in investment, has grown into a Rs 8 lakh revenue venture in just two years, proving the potential of the second-hand book market in India.

The inspiration for Kitabwalah came from Akshay’s personal struggles. As an engineering student in Muzaffarpur, he found it increasingly difficult to afford the high costs of textbooks and study materials. This sparked the idea of creating a platform where students could easily buy and sell second-hand books at affordable prices. Understanding that many students face similar challenges, Akshay and Srijan co-founded Kitabwalah, a business dedicated to making education more accessible by offering pre-owned books to students at a fraction of their original cost.

With a mission to bridge the gap between high book prices and student budgets, the duo started by selling second-hand textbooks to other students in their community. Their online platform quickly gained traction, and within two years, they had sold over 6,000 books, earning Rs 8 lakh in revenue.

The startup's success didn’t go unnoticed. Under the Bihar Startup Policy 2022, Kitabwalah secured funding, allowing them to expand and streamline their operations. The funding has enabled them to scale their business, expand their inventory, and reach more students across Bihar and beyond.

Kitabwalah’s model is simple yet effective. Students can browse through a variety of textbooks, buy used books in good condition, and even sell their own old books through the platform. This circular business model has not only made education more affordable for students but has also reduced waste by recycling books.

Today, Kitabwalah is not just a business—it’s a testament to the power of student entrepreneurship and innovation. Akshay and Srijan’s journey proves that with a small investment, a strong vision, and a commitment to making a difference, one can turn a simple idea into a successful venture that impacts many.
