The United States
The United States is offering funding for Wide Bandgap Semiconductor (WBG) projects through the PowerAmerica initiative. PowerAmerica is a public-private partnership that was launched in 2016 with the aim of accelerating the commercialization of WBG technologies. The initiative is supported by the Department of Energy (DOE), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and more than 150 companies, universities, and national laboratories.
WBG semiconductors have the potential to revolutionize the energy sector. They are more energy efficient than traditional silicon-based semiconductors and can operate at higher temperatures, making them ideal for a range of applications including electric vehicles, renewable energy, and industrial power.
PowerAmerica is now inviting proposals for projects that will advance the commercialization of WBG semiconductors. Funding is available for projects in the following areas:
- WBG device development
- WBG materials and processing
- WBG power electronics packaging
- WBG system applications
The deadline for proposals is March 1, 2019. For more information, please visit the PowerAmerica website.
