Honda Motor Co.,Ltd. (Honda) and Daido Steel Co.,Ltd. (Daido Steel) have jointly developed a new type of rare earth free neodymium magnet that does not require rare earth metals for its manufacture. This new type of magnet has the same magnetic properties as conventional rare earth neodymium magnets, but does not contain any of the rare earth metals that are currently in short supply.
The development of this new type of magnet is the result of Honda and Daido Steel's ongoing collaboration in the field of materials technology. The two companies have been working together since 2006 to develop new types of materials that do not rely on rare earth metals. This new magnet is the latest example of this joint effort.
The new magnet is made from an alloy of iron, cobalt, and boron. This alloy is melted and formed into a shape using conventional methods. The magnet is then heat-treated to refine its structure and improve its magnetic properties.

Honda and Daido Steel will continue to jointly develop new materials that do not rely on rare earth metals. These new materials will help to ensure a stable supply of critical components for Honda's products, even in the event of a shortage of rare earth metals.
