Grocery stores are starting to add electric vehicle charging stations to their parking lots, as part of a wider effort by the grocery industry to be more sustainable and reduce their carbon footprint.
It's not just a matter of being green. Grocery stores see adding EV charging as a way to attract and retain customers, who may spend more time in the store if they know they can charge up while they shop.
Here are a few examples of grocery stores that are adding EV charging:
- Trader Joe's: The grocery chain is adding EV charging stations to 12 of its stores in California. The stations will be available to customers for free.
- Whole Foods: Whole Foods has installed EV charging stations at 13 of its stores, with plans to add more in the future. Customers can pay to use the stations by the hour or by the kilowatt-hour.
- ALDI: The discount grocery chain has installed EV charging stations at all of its U.S. stores. The move is part of ALDI's goal to be carbon-neutral by the end of 2020.
As the number of EVs on the road increases, we can expect to see more and more grocery stores adding EV charging stations to their parking lots.
