Extreme E,an off-road racing series,is partnering with pentland Brands, the company behind Second Life Batteries,to power their vehicles using batteries that have been recycled from electric vehicles.
The idea is that the batteries, which are no longer suitable for use in electric vehicles, can be repurposed to provide power in remote locations that lack reliable electricity.
The batteries will be used to power a fleet of off-road racing cars that will compete in Extreme E's inaugural season, which is scheduled to start in early 2021.
The partnership is part of Extreme E's commitment to promoting sustainable racing, and the use of recycled batteries is a key part of that.
Second Life Batteries is a UK-based company that specialized in recycling lithium-ion batteries from electric vehicles.
The company was founded in 2016 by James Edmonds, who saw an opportunity to repurpose the batteries once they were no longer suitable for use in electric vehicles.
The batteries are recycled and then sold to companies that need power for remote locations, such as construction sites, mining operations, and, now, Extreme E.
The use of recycled batteries is a key part of Extreme E's commitment to sustainability, and the partnership with Second Life Batteries is a great example of that.
The batteries will help to power the fleet of off-road racing cars that will compete in the inaugural season of Extreme E, which is scheduled to start in early 2021.
