Abigail Johnson Bio

Abigail Johnson, in full Abigail Pierrepont Johnson, (born December 19, 1961, Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.), American business executive who served as CEO of Fidelity Investments (2014– ) and chairman of its international sister company, Fidelity International (2012– ).

Johnson is the daughter of Edward C. Johnson III, the former CEO of Fidelity, and the granddaughter of company founder Edward C. Johnson II. She attended Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where she received a B.A. in art history in 1984, and later earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1988.

After graduation Johnson worked briefly at Booz Allen Hamilton, a management consulting firm, before joining Fidelity in 1988. She initially worked as a portfolio manager, and in the 1990s she was involved in the development of the company’s 401(k) retirement savings plan and Fidelity’s foray into the mutual fund supermarket business.

Johnson served as president of Fidelity’s personal and workplace investing division from 2001 to 2005, overseeing the company’s core retail businesses. In 2006 she was appointed head of Fidelity’s asset management division, and in 2012 she became chairman of Fidelity International, the company’s international affiliate. In 2014 she succeeded her father as CEO of Fidelity.

Johnson has been active in various philanthropic and civic organizations, including serving as a trustee of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and as a member of the board of directors of the Financial Services Forum.
