Aliko Dangote, in full Aliko Dangote, (born April 10, 1957, Kano, Nigeria), Nigerian businessman, who was ranked by Forbes magazine in 2021 as the 191st-wealthiest person in the world, with a net worth estimated at $9.9 billion.

After studying business at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Dangote began trading in commodities in Nigeria, building his fortune on the importation of basic goods. In 1981 he turned to manufacturing, setting up Dangote Group, a conglomerate that now holds interests in several industries, including food processing, cement manufacturing, and freight.

Dangote’s business activities have helped to transform the Nigerian economy, and he has been recognized for his philanthropic work, including his contributions to education and health care in Nigeria.
