In today's digital age, as fast as technology is progressing, new methods of online fraud are also emerging at the same pace. Recently a new kind of cyber scam has been revealed, in which scammers are cheating innocent people by luring them with jobs using Artificial Intelligence (AI). This scam is especially targeting those who are looking for a job and can easily fall into the trap of these fraudsters.
Scammers using AI bots
According to a report by Economic Times (ET), scammers are contacting people through messaging apps and offering jobs by introducing themselves as HR of a reputed company. In this process, they are communicating with people using AI bots, which makes the conversation seem very real.
According to the report, a woman received a message from an unknown number, in which a woman introduced herself as HR of a reputed company and offered her an attractive job. However, when the woman got suspicious, she asked the person some general questions. Like, "Who is the superstar of Bollywood?" and "Who is the Prime Minister of India?" Both these questions were answered correctly by the AI bot. But along with this, he also kept asking questions related to the job, which showed that he was a programmed bot.
How to identify fake job offers?
People looking for jobs need to be cautious of such scams. Usually such scammers trap people in some special ways:
- Messages coming from unknown numbers: Scammers usually contact on WhatsApp, Telegram or other messaging apps from unknown numbers.
- Giving very attractive offers: They offer jobs with high salary and great facilities without any interview or process.
- Asking for personal information: They ask for sensitive information like bank account details, Aadhaar card, PAN card.
- Demanding money: In some cases, they ask for money from people in the name of job security or training.
Fake hiring has become a big threat
Cases of fake hiring scams are increasing continuously in the country. Many people fall into this trap and lose their personal information and money. According to the report, in 64% of the cases in 2024, even AI has been unable to catch these job scams, as scammers are now using highly advanced technologies.
The report also stated that scammers start the conversation by sending general messages like Hi, How are you? and gradually come to the point of job offer. Their messages look so professional and real that people are easily deceived.
How to avoid scams through AI?
- Be skeptical: If someone is offering a job from an unknown number, then first investigate it thoroughly.
- Check the company's website: Visit the official website of the company whose name is being taken and see if any such job has been posted there.
- Never pay money: No reputed company asks for money in advance for a job. If someone is asking for money, it is 100% a scam.
- Identify AI bots: If something seems fishy in the conversation or the answers seem automated, be alert.
- Complain to the cyber crime cell: If you have been made a victim of a scam, report it to the cyber crime cell immediately.
As AI and technology are developing, scammers are also inventing new ways. People looking for a job need to be especially careful. To avoid fake hiring through AI, always check any offer thoroughly and never share your personal information with unknown people.
