Sprint Power, Inc., a leading global provider of advanced battery systems, announced today that it has been selected to lead a new project to develop ultra fast charging 800 volt battery systems.
The project is being funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), and will be conducted in partnership with the Argonne National Laboratory and the Electric Transportation Engineering Corporation.
The goal of the project is to develop a new generation of high-power density, high-energy density, and ultra-fast charger-compatible battery systems for electric vehicles (EVs).
The new battery systems will be capable of charging an EV in just 15 minutes, and will offer a driving range of up to 500 miles on a single charge.
The project is expected to last for three years, and Sprint Power will receive $4.5 million in funding from the EERE.
