Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has inaugurated a ₹77 crore state-of-the-art sports hub in Jalandhar, a major step in revitalizing athletic infrastructure and promoting sports culture across the region. The ambitious project aims to provide world-class training facilities for aspiring athletes while nurturing sports talent at the grassroots level.
The newly announced complex will include modern infrastructure such as synthetic tracks, swimming pools, multi-sport indoor arenas, and specialized coaching academies for disciplines including hockey, athletics, wrestling, and more. The initiative is seen as a strategic move to position Punjab as a key contributor to India’s national sporting achievements.
Located in Jalandhar, a city historically known for its sporting goods industry and contribution to Indian athletics, the new hub seeks to harness local passion and channel it into structured sports development. Officials emphasized that the facility would be accessible not only to elite athletes but also to school and college students from surrounding districts.
Chief Minister Mann stated that the hub is a vital component of Punjab’s broader vision to reinvigorate youth participation in physical education and create career opportunities through sports. He added that the government is committed to providing necessary infrastructure and support systems to help Punjab athletes excel at national and international levels.
The sports hub will also create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs during its construction and operational phases. Additionally, the complex is expected to draw national tournaments and training camps to the region, further boosting local tourism and the economy.
The government’s investment in this project reflects a deeper focus on youth empowerment, health, and holistic development. As construction progresses, the Jalandhar sports hub is poised to become a benchmark for other states seeking to build integrated sports ecosystems rooted in accessibility and excellence.
