As tensions continue to mount between India and Pakistan, the District Public Relations Office (DPRO) of Amritsar has released a high-priority advisory to all residents, urging them to take immediate precautions. The advisory instructs civilians to remain indoors, stay away from windows, and keep lights switched off during the night hours, citing potential security risks due to the volatile situation along the border.

The message, which was circulated through local media, WhatsApp groups, and official platforms, is part of a coordinated effort to protect civilian lives in light of escalating military movements. Amritsar, located just 30 kilometers from the Indo-Pak border, has historically remained on high alert during such periods of geopolitical strain.

According to senior district officials, the advisory is not meant to incite panic but to promote a state of cautious readiness. "We request citizens to cooperate with the administration. These measures are purely preventive in nature. The situation is being closely monitored," a spokesperson from the DPRO stated.

Reports of cross-border incursions, air defence activity, and heightened troop presence have already placed several districts in Punjab under increased surveillance. While no attack has been confirmed in Amritsar so far, the city’s closeness to potential targets makes civilian safety measures critical.

The advisory also calls for the suspension of non-essential outdoor movement after sundown. Residents have been told to switch off terrace and balcony lights and avoid gatherings. Schools, colleges, and business establishments are being advised to stay updated through official channels.

Local police have set up additional checkpoints across entry and exit points of the district. Paramilitary forces have also been deployed at strategic locations. Emergency response teams are on standby and the health department has been directed to keep hospitals ready for any scenario.

Civic bodies are playing their part as well, with municipal workers ensuring that community shelters and underground facilities are accessible if needed. Religious institutions across the city have joined in spreading awareness, with announcements being made in gurdwaras and mosques asking people to cooperate and stay calm.
