The company was founded by a pair of engineers who met while working on the military drone program at NASA's Langley Research Center. KStruthers and TScheyen decided they wanted to do something "more meaningful" with their lives, so they quit their jobs and started Divergent.

The company's first product is the Blade, a prototype two-seat supercar that weighs just 1,400 pounds and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds.

The Blade is built around a modular chassis that can be printed on a 3D printer. The chassis is made of aluminum and carbon fiber, and it can be fitted with different motors, batteries, and other components to create a variety of different vehicles.

Divergent is also working on a larger vehicle called the Node that it says can be used as "the basis for a car, a truck, a bus, or an SUV."

The company is still in the early stages of development, and it has yet to sell any vehicles. But it has raised $1.5 million from investors, and it plans to begin selling the Blade in 2017.
