Switzerland-based Kübler has deployed what it believes is the world's first all-electric car transporter. The new vehicle is based on the Kübler Variotransporter and can carry up to eight vehicles at a time.
The transporter uses electric motors to drive its wheels, and can travel up to 80km on a single charge. It can also be plugged into the electrical grid to recharge.
According to Kübler, the new transporter is more efficient than its diesel-powered counterparts, and produces zero emissions. The company believes that the new transporter will help it meet its goal of becoming a carbon-neutral company by 2020.
The new transporter is just one example of how the transport industry is beginning to embrace electric vehicles. Earlier this year, DHL announced that it would be deploying electric trucks in select cities in the United States. And in July, UPS announced that it had placed an order for 125 Tesla Semi electric trucks.
As the cost of batteries and electric vehicles continue to fall, it's likely that we'll see even more electric car transporters and trucks on the roads in the years to come.
