London bus operator Tower Transit has ordered 195 electric buses from Alexander Dennis and BYD. The buses will be deployed on routes across the city, including 25 double-decker buses which will operate on route 69 between Canning Town and Walthamstow. The order is the largest ever placed for electric buses in the UK.

Tower Transit says that the move will help to cut its emissions by more than 95% compared to its current fleet of diesel buses. The buses will be charged at a new depot in Canning Town, which has been fitted with 150kW charger point

BYD and Alexander Dennis are two of the leading manufacturers of electric buses in the world, and Tower Transit is the first bus operator in the UK to order a fleet of electric buses from both companies.

The order is part of Tower Transit's plans to operate a fully electric fleet by 2030. The company has also announced that it will be installing solar panels at its depots and offices, and investing in electric vans and cars for its staff.
