The investment, which was led by Investors, takes the total amount Lightyear has raised to over €100 million (~$112 million). It will be used to finalize the design of the Lightyear One EV and to set up production, which is set to take place at a former NATO base in the Netherlands.

Lightyear says its EV will have a range of up to 725 kilometers (451 miles) on a single charge, which is more than double the average range of a conventional EV. The company plans to start delivering the first production cars to customers in Europe and the United States in 2020.

The Lightyear One is a solar-powered EV with a range of up to 725 kilometers (451 miles).

The company was founded in 2016 by a team of five engineers who had previously worked on the development of the Tesla Model S. Lightyear says its EV is designed to be more efficient than a conventional EV, thanks to its aerodynamic body and the solar panels that are integrated into the roof.

The Lightyear One will be available in two versions: the Standard Range, which has a range of 500 kilometers (311 miles), and the Long Range, which has a range of 725 kilometers (451 miles). Both versions will have a top speed of 140 kilometers per hour (87 miles per hour).

The company is now taking reservations for the Lightyear One, with a deposit of €5,000 (~$5,600). The Standard Range version of the EV will cost €119,000 (~$135,000), while the Long Range version will cost €149,000 (~$168,000).
