Lightning Motorcycles made history this weekend at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, with their rider Carlin Dunne winning the electric motorcycle class with a time of 9:52.819. This beats the previous record for an electric motorcycle by over 30 seconds!
What makes this even more impressive is that the team had to overcome some major obstacles in the lead up to the event. Just a week before, their main rider Greg Tracy had to pull out due to an injured wrist, meaning that they had to rely on Dunne to get the job done.
But he did it, and in style. Not only did he break the record, but he also became the first electric motorcycle to finish in the top 10 overall, coming in 9th place out of a total of 162 riders. This is a huge achievement for both the team and the sport of electric motorcycle racing.
The team now has its sights set on the Isle of Man TT, which is widely considered to be the most prestigious motorcycle race in the world. If they can replicate their success there, it is sure to take electric motorcycle racing to a whole new level.
