Hyundai Motor has unveiled its new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which the company says will be used for a range of new electric cars. The E-GMP is a dedicated EV platform that has been designed specifically for electric vehicles. It is scalable and can be used for a variety of different body types, including SUVs, sedans, and crossovers. The platform is also capable of supporting both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. Hyundai says that the E-GMP will allow it to launch a range of new EVs over the next few years, including a dedicated electric SUV.

The E-GMP platform is said to offer a range of benefits over traditional ICE (internal combustion engine) cars. These include:

  • Increased range - the E-GMP platform has been designed for long-range EV performance, with a range of up to 500 km (310 miles) possible on a single charge.
  • Fast charging - the platform supports high-speed charging, with Hyundai claiming that it will be able to charge from 10-80% in just 18 minutes.
  • Enhanced performance - the E-GMP platform is said to offer improved acceleration, handling, and braking compared to traditional ICE cars.
  • Increased space efficiency - the platform is said to offer a more efficient use of space than traditional ICE cars, with a shorter wheelbase and a lower center of gravity.

The E-GMP platform will be used by Hyundai for a range of new EVs, including a dedicated electric SUV. The SUV, which is due to be unveiled later this year, is said to offer a range of up to 500 km (310 miles) and a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of under 5.0 seconds. Hyundai is also said to be working on a high-performance electric car that will use the E-GMP platform. This car, which is due to be unveiled in 2021, is said to offer a 0-100 km/h time of under 3.5 seconds.

The E-GMP platform is also being licensed by Hyundai to other companies. Kia, Hyundai's sister brand, is already said to be working on an electric SUV that will use the E-GMP platform. It is also rumored that Volkswagen is considering using the E-GMP platform for a range of new electric cars. Hyundai says that it is in talks with a number of other companies about licensing the platform.

The E-GMP platform is the latest electric car platform to be unveiled by a major automaker. Volkswagen has already announced its MEB platform, which will be used for a range of new electric cars. Tesla also has its ownelectric car platform, which is used for the Model S and Model X. BMW is also said to be working on a new electric car platform, which is rumored to be called the "iNext".
