The ePowertrain system is a proprietary technology developed by Fuso, a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG. It is an electric drivetrain that delivers up to 480 hp and 4,000 lb-ft of torque. The system includes a Detroit DD15 Gen 5 engine, electric motor, and inverter.

The ePowertrain is said to offer several advantages over traditional diesel-electric hybrid drivetrains, including reduced complexity, lower weight, and improved efficiency.

Freightliner is initially offering the ePowertrain in two models: the Medium Duty eM2106 and the Heavy Duty eCascadia.

The Medium Duty eM2106 is a class 6 truck with a GVWR of 26,000 lbs. It has a standard range of 230 miles and a maximum range of 320 miles. The truck is available with either a single or a dual motor configuration.

The Heavy Duty eCascadia is a class 8 truck with a GVWR of 80,000 lbs. It has a standard range of 400 miles and a maximum range of 500 miles. The eCascadia is available with either a single or a dual motor configuration.

Both models are now available for order, with production set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2019.
