Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) today announced the delivery of its first Freightliner eCascadia Class 8 electric truck to Penske Truck Leasing.
Penske, which has a history of leading the transportation industry in advanced vehicle technologies, will pilot the new eCascadia with select customers in Southern California.
"As we continue our focus on decarbonization, we must explore and embrace new technologies that will enable us to meet our environmental goals," said Penske Truck Leasing Chairman and CEO Brian Hard.
"The Freightliner eCascadia will play an important role in Penske's continued leadership in reducing emissions and promoting sustainability in the trucking industry."
The eCascadia is powered by two electric motors with a combined 480 peak horsepower and 4,051 lb.-ft. of torque. It features a range of up to 250 miles on a single charge and can be recharged to 80 percent in 90 minutes using DC fast charging.
The eCascadia is part of Daimler's global strategy to provide commercial vehicle customers with a full range of electrified solutions – from hybrid to battery electric – to meet their specific needs.
"We believe the market for battery electric trucks is still in its early stages, and we are committed to providing our customers with the solutions they need to succeed," said Daimler Trucks North America President and CEO Roger Nielsen.
"The eCascadia is an important part of our efforts to provide our customers with a full range of electrified vehicle options, and we are excited to have Penske as a partner in this important pilot program."
