According to the website Autocar, the electric terminal tractor was delivered to the California supermarket chain in an attempt to continue reducing their emissions. The supermarket chain joins a grocery store in Oklahoma and a container terminal in New Jersey that have all recently received electrically-powered trucks from Autocar.
The electric terminal tractor is part of Autocar's line of medium-duty electric trucks that includes garbage trucks, street sweepers, and yard spotters. All of these vehicles are part of Autocar's efforts to offer vocational vehicles with zero emissions.
The electric terminal tractor is powered by a battery that provides up to 100 miles of range. The battery can be recharged in as little as two hours using a Level 2 charger.
The truck features a number of features that make it well-suited for use in a supermarket setting. These include a rear-view camera, an automated liftgate, and an air-ride suspension.
The electric terminal tractor is just one of a number of initiatives that the supermarket chain has undertaken in recent years to reduce their emissions. Other initiatives have included installing solar panels and implementing a comprehensive recycling program.
