PM Modi Honoured With Sri Lanka’s Highest Civilian Award for Strengthening Bilateral Ties
In a landmark gesture of diplomacy and regional friendship, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been conferred Sri Lanka's highest civilian honour. The award recognizes his continued commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations through cooperation in trade, energy, infrastructure, and cultural exchange.
The honour was presented during a special state ceremony in Colombo, where Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe praised Modi’s leadership in fostering peace and prosperity in South Asia. “Prime Minister Modi has been a consistent supporter of Sri Lanka’s development goals. His contributions have transcended politics and geography,” said the President.
India and Sri Lanka have historically shared deep-rooted cultural and economic ties, and in recent years, those relations have grown significantly. From extending financial aid during Sri Lanka’s economic crisis to supporting cross-border energy and digital initiatives, India has played a key role in its neighbor’s recovery and growth.
Modi, in his acceptance speech, emphasized the shared heritage and future vision of the two countries. “This honour is not just for me but for every Indian who believes in the power of partnership and progress. Together, we are building a region that stands united for development and peace.”
The civilian honour adds to a growing list of international recognitions awarded to Modi, further solidifying his position as a global statesman with a strong regional focus.
This historic moment underscores India’s growing influence in South Asia and signals a renewed commitment to fostering stronger neighborhood diplomacy.
