India is preparing to introduce a comprehensive set of national cybersecurity guidelines in response to the sharp increase in AI-powered cyberattacks targeting individuals, businesses, and government systems. With digital adoption accelerating across sectors, cybercriminals are increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence to craft sophisticated attacks that are harder to detect and prevent.

According to senior officials, the new guidelines will focus on protecting critical digital infrastructure, enhancing early-warning systems, and ensuring stronger compliance mechanisms for both public and private entities. The move comes as India experiences a surge in AI-generated phishing scams, ransomware operations, deepfake frauds, and automated hacking attempts—many of which exploit system vulnerabilities faster than human-led responses can manage.

The upcoming framework is expected to mandate stricter cybersecurity audits, real-time monitoring tools, and AI-driven threat-detection systems across essential sectors such as finance, healthcare, telecom, defence, and transport. Organizations may also be required to adopt more advanced encryption protocols, secure cloud architectures, and multi-layer identity authentication.

A major focus area will be public safety and digital hygiene. The government aims to introduce updated awareness campaigns to help citizens identify AI-generated scams, fake videos, and fraudulent communication. Schools and colleges may also receive cyber-awareness modules under the Digital India education outreach.

Industry experts believe this national guideline will significantly upgrade India’s cyber-resilience. With cyberattacks becoming faster and more targeted due to AI automation, strong regulatory safeguards are now essential to protect data, maintain trust, and secure the digital economy.
