The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh cold-wave and weather alerts for several states, signalling a sharp drop in temperatures as winter conditions intensify across the country. Regions in Maharashtra and Punjab are among the worst affected, with the IMD warning residents to brace for significantly colder days and nights in the coming week.

In Maharashtra, northern and central districts are expected to experience a sudden dip in minimum temperatures due to strong north-westerly winds entering the region. The cold-wave conditions may also impact daily routines, agricultural activities and the health of vulnerable populations. Authorities are advising residents to take precautions, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours.

Punjab, already feeling the grip of chilly winds, is likely to face even lower temperature levels as cold air continues to sweep down from the Himalayas. Several areas are predicted to record temperatures far below seasonal averages, prompting local administrations to consider measures such as night shelters and school timing adjustments.

Meanwhile, the IMD has also issued dense fog warnings for parts of Odisha and Manipur. Visibility in these regions is expected to drop significantly during early morning hours, posing risks for road, rail and air travel. Transport authorities have been cautioned to prepare for possible delays, while residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during peak fog hours.

Meteorologists predict that the current weather pattern will persist for several days, with more states possibly coming under cold-wave advisories as winter deepens. The IMD continues to monitor atmospheric conditions closely, ensuring early alerts to help citizens stay informed and safe.
