Flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) use an internal combustion engine, electronic control module, exhaust system, gasoline filler, fuel tank (ethanol/gasoline blend), spark-ignited internal combustion engine, and transmission. Adjustments to the fuel pump and fuel injection system, as well as tuning of the engine control module, are necessary to account for ethanol's unique characteristics and energy content.
