Proterra has announced a new version of its battery pack that will enable electric buses to travel up to 180 miles on a single charge. The new Terravolt XR battery pack is a major upgrade from the previous version, which had a maximum range of just under 100 miles.

The new battery pack is significantly lighter and more energy-dense than the previous version, thanks to the use of lithium-ion batteries. Proterra says the new battery pack will enable its buses to travel at highway speeds for the entire length of a typical transit route without needing to be recharged.

The Terravolt XR battery pack is just one example of the company's continued commitment to innovation in the electric bus space. Proterra has also developed a unique fast-charging system that can recharge a bus in just 10 minutes. This enables electric buses to operate in a similar fashion to traditional diesel buses, with no need for lengthy downtime for charging.
