The 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine in the Mclaren P1 has been developed from the engine in the 12C and 650S. It produces 727bhp at 7500rpm and 531lb ft of torque at 4000rpm. The engine features race car-like dry sump lubrication, twin fuel pumps and a flat plane crankshaft.

The in-house developed electric motor produces 176bhp and 192lb ft of torque. It sits between the engine and seven-speed gearbox and is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack mounted behind the seats.

The Mclaren P1 has 903bhp and 722lb ft of torque.

The Mclaren P1 goes from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds, 0-124mph in 6.8 seconds and 0-186mph in 16.5 seconds. It has a top speed of 217mph.
