Efficient Drivetrains, Inc. (EDI), a leading developer of advanced, all-electric and hybrid powertrain solutions, announced today that it has introduced a new electric drivetrain for Type A school buses.
The new drivetrain, called the EDI PowerDrive 7000EV, is a high-efficiency, all-electric powertrain that incorporates EDI's proprietary technologies and components. The PowerDrive 7000EV is designed to provide a wide range of benefits for school bus operators, including significantly reduced operating costs, reduced emissions, and improved vehicle performance.
Type A school buses are the most common type of school bus in the United States, with more than 50,000 in operation. They are typically used for short-distance routes of less than 30 miles.
The PowerDrive 7000EV is a drop-in replacement for the standard internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrain in a Type A school bus. It consists of an electric motor, drive inverter, and onboard charger, integrated into a single, compact unit. The motor is powered by a high-energy-density battery pack, which can be quickly and easily swapped out when necessary.
The PowerDrive 7000EV offers a maximum motor power of 185 kW (250 hp), and a peak torque of 385 Nm (284 lb-ft). The drivetrain has a top speed of 65 mph, and a range of up to 100 miles on a single charge.
The EDI PowerDrive 7000EV is currently in production, and is available for immediate delivery. For more information, please visit https://www.efficientdrivetrains.com/.
