In a press release today, Archer Aviation and United Airlines announced the first US commercial electric air taxi route. The route will connect Newark Liberty International Airport and Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.
The Archer Electric Air Taxi is a two-seat, all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. It has a range of 60 miles (97 km) and a top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h). The aircraft is powered by a battery pack that can be recharged in as little as 5 minutes.
The announcement of the new route comes as Archer prepares to begin commercial operations in 2020. The company has been testing its aircraft in New Jersey and Los Angeles, and has plans to expand to other US cities in the coming years.
With its announcement of the Newark-Teterboro route, Archer is the first company to offer commercial electric air taxi service in the US. The company says that the route will be the first of many in the US, and that it is working with other airlines and airports to expand its operations.
