Nissan has unveiled a prototype production facility for solid state batteries, which will be used to mass-produce the batteries for the company's next-generation electric vehicles.

The facility, located in Yokohama, Japan, is the first of its kind in the world, and is capable of producing 2,000 battery cells per day.

The use of solid state batteries will enable Nissan to produce electric vehicles with significantly higher range and faster charging times than current lithium-ion battery technology.

Nissan's solid state batteries are also expected to be more durable and have a longer lifespan than current lithium-ion batteries.

The prototype production facility is a joint venture between Nissan and its battery supplier, NEC Energy Devices.
