A new all-electric SUV is set to make its racing debut in 2021. The SUV will compete in the Extreme E off-road racing series, which is expected to start next year. The series will feature electric vehicles racing in some of the world's most remote and extreme environments.
The SUV, which has been developed by the same team behind the Formula E electric racing series, is based on the GMC Hummer EV. It will be equipped with four electric motors, which will give it a total power output of around 680bhp.
The SUV will have a range of around 300 miles (482km) on a single charge, and will be able to re-charge its batteries in around 30 minutes using the series' 'spectator charging' system. This will allow fans to watch the action while the vehicles are being re-charged.
The series is being backed by a number of high-profile names, including Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. It is hoped that the series will help to promote the uptake of electric vehicles, and help to raise awareness of climate change.
