Shri Conrad K. Sangma, Hon’ble Chief Minister, inaugurates the State Guest House- Taraghar, Shillong

Shillong, September 16th, 2025: In a significant development, Shri Conrad K Sangma, Hon’ble Chief Minister, today inaugurated the newly constructed State Guest House Taraghar,Shillong, in a ceremony in the presence of Shri Prestone Tynsong, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Sniawbhalang Dhar, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, and other cabinet ministers.

Dignitaries included Shri Conrad K Sangma, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Prestone Tynsong, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Sniawbhalang Dhar, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, and other cabinet ministers.Other dignitaries included Hon’ble Members of Legislative Assembly and Hon’ble Members of District Council. Key Officials included Shri Donald P. Wahlang, IAS, Chief Secretary; Smt Idashisha Nongrang, Director General of Police (DGP), Shri C.V.D. Diengdoh, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, and senior officials from other allied departments.

The event convened with the unveiling of the inauguration plaque at the entrance, followed by a guided tour of the guest house.

In his keynote addressShri Conrad K. Sangma, Hon'ble Chief Ministerstated, “When the government took office, in 2018, Meghalaya lacked basic state symbols such as an emblem or an anthem and all of which have since been established under this administration, including the newly inaugurated guest house.

He emphasized on government’s commitment to delivering development through teamwork, consistency, and a positive approach. He stressed that Meghalaya is now the second fastest growing economy in India, consistently achieving a 10 % growth.”

He stressed on government’s role in investing highly on infrastructure and focus towards holistic and inclusive development.

Additionally, Hon’ble Chief Minister spoke on investments of around Rs.40 crore around the vicinity of Wards Lake to enhance roads, footpaths, and public spaces.

The newly developed state guest house will significantly reduce costs by eliminating the need to rent venues for official programs, training sessions, and reviews, contributing to efficient cost cutting and a better governance.

He concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, improved systems, and long term development for the people of Meghalaya.

The state-of-the-art guest house, built at a cost of ₹24.91 crores, will be operated and maintained by Polo Towers. This luxurious abode is perfectly suited to host top dignitaries. Its proximity to the iconic Wards Lake enhances its appeal, making it a highly sought-after destination.

Shri Prestone Tynsong, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, highlighted the state's long-standing need for a dedicated guest house, noting that it took 25 years, from 2000 to 2025, to finally have one. He acknowledged the Hon'ble Chief Minister's decision in 2022 to establish a state guest house, saying, 'This government has made the right move, and Meghalaya is moving in the right direction.' He also emphasized the guest house's prime location near the iconic Ward's Lake in Shillong, which adds to its significance.

Shri Donald P. Wahlang, IAS, Chief Secretary, reflected on the journey of the State Guest House, expressing gratitude to the Hon'ble Chief Minister for his vision and prompt response to the renovation project, and to the Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister for his role in its execution. He stated, "the State Guest House has become one of the best in the country".

The State Guest House with its modern facilities, has been envisaged as an addition to Meghalaya’s infrastructure for hosting dignitaries and official visitors. The facility showcases a strong commitment to the State’s quality service and well-run administration.
