The ‘Swasth Nari Sashakth Parivar Abhiyaan’, an initiative dedicated to developing and rendering health services for women and children, was successfully organised today at the Barapani State Dispensary, Ri-Bhoi district, Meghalaya.
The programme was graced by Shri. C.H. Vijayashankar, Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, as the guest of honour.
In his keynote address, Shri. C.H. Vijayashankar, Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, emphasized the significance of the new health initiative, centered on the principle of 'Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar'(Healthy Women, Strong Family). He stressed that “the health and happiness of a family depend on the well-being of its women.” The Governor urged every female, from one-year-old children to women of any age, to undergo a free medical check-up before the October 2nd deadline.
He assured the citizens that the entire cost of their medicine and subsequent treatment for any detected illnesses, including major diseases like cancer, heart, and other ailments will be taken care of. He called upon everyone to share this vital information with their relatives and community to ensure maximum participation in this crucial health program. He also distributed hampers to the beneficiaries and re-usable sanitary pads to the adolescent girls. He also visited the different health kiosks and shared his valuable feedback.
In his opening remarks, Shri Abhilash Baranwal, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ri-Bhoi districtdescribed the event as an a landmark programme, aims to conduct comprehensive health screenings for women of all age groups, addressing the various health issues they might face. He said the initiative is also designed to build upon the success of previous flagship schemes like the Swachh Bharat Mission and the National Rural Health Mission. As part of this nationwide campaign, over one lakh (100,000) health camps will be held across the country.
In her keynote address, Dr. Neela E. Kharsahnoh, Director of Health Services (MCH&FW), strongly encouraged to utilize this two-week opportunity to get screened, as early detection is key to effective treatment and maintaining community health.
In her welcome address, Dr. Anju Marak, District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) extended a warm welcome to the Hon'ble Governor, Shri C.H. Vijayashankar, noting the special significance of his visit to the state dispensary.
The campaign launched by Shri Narendra Modi, the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, on September 17, 2025, aims to raise awareness and provide health services focused on the well-being of women and families in the country. This initiative is a broader commitment to ensuring accessible and all-inclusive health care for all citizens.
Focusing on the Government of Meghalaya’s deep-rooted commitment towards prioritizing women’s health, the successful conduct of this programme reinforces the vision of a healthy Meghalaya, where every woman and child has access to quality health care across both rural and urban areas.
The event saw an active participation by senior health officials, medical officers, students, and beneficiaries.
