Dominion Energy has selected Thomas Built Buses' Jouley electric school bus as part of its initiative to electrify Virginia's school bus fleet. Jouley, which was unveiled last year, is the first and only Type C school bus to be powered by Proterra's battery electric powertrain.
The Virginia-based utility company plans to deploy three of the buses in the state this fall and is currently working with school districts to identify suitable bus routes. Dominion Energy will also provide funding for the deployment and installation of charging infrastructure.
This initiative is part of Dominion Energy's goal to reduce transportation emissions by 30 percent by 2030. "Electric school buses are a key part of our strategy to clean the air, reduce emissions and address climate change," said Jack Finn, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and External Affairs at Dominion Energy. "We're committed to doing our part to create a more sustainable future for our children and our grandchildren."
Thomas Built Buses' President and CEO Caley Edgerly added, "We are proud to be partnering with Dominion Energy on this important initiative. Together, we are working to create a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future for all."
