In the tribal regions of Maharashtra's Nandurbar district, a transformative initiative called Aadiwasi Janjagruti is harnessing the power of zero-budget videos to advocate for community rights and social change. Founded in 2017 by Nitesh Bhardwaj during his SBI Youth for India fellowship, this project empowers local volunteers to
create and disseminate mobile videos highlighting pressing local issues.

Empowering Communities Through Mobile Filmmaking

Aadiwasi Janjagruti trains volunteers from various villages to produce short films and news segments in indigenous languages such as Pawari, Bhilori, and Aahrani. These videos, crafted entirely on mobile phones, address critical topics ranging from healthcare access to education and infrastructure challenges. The content is then shared via social media platforms and screened during village meetings using mobile projectors, ensuring widespread reach and engagement.

Addressing Local Challenges and Achieving Impact

By spotlighting community-specific issues, these videos have prompted tangible improvements in public services and infrastructure. For instance, exposing deficiencies in local healthcare facilities has led to enhanced medical services, while highlighting infrastructural shortcomings has spurred development projects. This approach not only raises awareness but also fosters a culture of accountability and proactive problem-solving within the community.
