In a bold move to challenge India’s congested roads and growing demand for sustainable transport, father-son duo Prakash and Pranav Dandekar have introduced ‘Robin’, a sleek, two-seater electric micro-car under their startup Wings EV. This innovation is more than just a product—it’s a vision for the future of urban mobility in India.
Born from the idea that most urban commutes involve just one or two people, Robin is designed to be compact yet comfortable, nimble yet powerful. The car features a minimalist, aerodynamic frame, an electric motor suited for city travel, and a design that allows for easy maneuvering in tight spaces and narrow roads.
The motivation for the project began when Prakash, an automobile veteran, noticed the inefficiencies in the way urban dwellers used their large vehicles for solo commutes. Along with his son Pranav, an engineer passionate about clean technology, they set out to build something India truly needed—a reliable, affordable, and environmentally friendly micro-EV.
Robin’s current prototype boasts a top speed of 50 kmph and a range of 80–100 km on a single charge, making it ideal for city usage. It also features a compact lithium-ion battery pack and aims for a quick charge time, bringing convenience to its eco-friendly core.
What makes Wings EV stand out is its focus on hyper-local production and affordability. Unlike imported EV models, Robin is being built with Indian streets and sensibilities in mind. The father-son duo also plans to launch a subscription-based model, allowing users to rent the vehicle for short durations or daily commutes—thus encouraging more sustainable habits without the burden of full ownership.
With India’s EV infrastructure steadily improving and government policies supporting green mobility, innovations like Robin could soon become a common sight on city roads. Wings EV has already begun working with early testers and is eyeing a commercial launch in select metro cities.
From a garage idea to a full-fledged prototype, Pranav and Prakash’s journey with Robin shows that innovation doesn’t need massive factories—it just needs a vision, determination, and a problem worth solving. As India drives toward a greener future, the Robin may well lead the charge in making personal mobility smarter, cleaner, and more efficient.
